JBTV is recruiting interns and volunteers who are passionate about the end to end process for producing Music Entertainment Television. We offer positions in a variety of departments:

JBTV has produced and aired over 3,600 weekly episodes since its inception in 1984. In the process, JBTV has twice garnered the coveted Billboard Music Video Award for ´Best Local/Regional Alternative Modern Rock Show´ along with multiple Emmy Awards for production. Continuously filming many of the biggest names in modern rock history- including Joey Ramone, Green Day, Billy Corgan, Moby, No Doubt, Pearl Jam, Henry Rollins, Bastille, the 1975, Of Monsters and Men, Imagine Dragons, Cage The Elephant, The Ting Tings, and too many others to name.
JBTV has become the longest-running source for modern music television in the nation and one of the few remaining examples of Chicago´s proud tradition of local programming. Interns will have hands on experience with shooting on HD cameras day of show, B-Roll, as well as editing videos, promos, motion graphics, posters, sizzle reels, etc. Come be a part of a dynamic, fun, and educational TV environment.
NOTE: JBTV is a volunteer organization. You are applying to a non-paid position to be part of a strategic music entertainment company that launches careers.
MUSIC BUSINESS OPERATIONS
This positions involves general office management, task management, production management, hospitality, and running front desk operations. Music business operations interns ensure that show days run smoothly and handle organizational tasks during non show days.
Journalism and creative writing interns write for a variety of outlets including the weekly JBTV newsletter, social media, write-ups for the JBTV blog and interview questions for JBTV music guests. This includes video content descriptions and offering ideas for improving the writing on our social media outlets.
VIDEO EDITING/MOTION GRAPHICS
Edit, design, and produce some great content with us! We offer hands on experience like no other internship offered. Motion graphics interns create content that will be seen by JBTV musical guests and fans on show day.
NOTE: Must be a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior at an accredited college or university and be able to receive credit. Proficiency in Adobe Premier Pro and Adobe Media Encoder is required. To be considered, submit a cover letter, resume, and demo reel showcasing your abilities.
- Transcode files for over the air broadcast distribution.
- Create GIFs from video to post on social media platforms.
- Edit documentary style interviews for online audiences.
- Knowledge of Adobe After Effects, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Maxon’s Cinema 4D (R17 is double plus).
- Ability to shoot with an ENG or DSLR camera.
- Prior professional experience.
- Knowledge of 4K workflow.
- Knowledge of live television production.
This position is for experienced camera operators (DSLR, Sony EX3/EX1, Jib, Cannon C100/C300 series). Additional experience with broadcast cameras, as well as filming concerts, live music and festivals is preferred.
The JBTV stage lighting internship offers a crash course in beginner’s light programming. Here you can gain experience operating stage lights for JBTV live show tapings. Enttec DMXIS software knowledge is preferred but not required.
Graphic design interns create concert posters for JBTV events, graphics and flyers for both physical and social media usage. Graphic design interns have the opportunity to offer ideas and create visual content for social media, as well as create content that will be seen by JBTV musical guests and fans on show day.
WEB DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT
This position is for those interested in website development, Drupal experience, SEO, WordPress, blog experience, performance optimization, SEO. Web design and development interns work to directly improve the JBTV website.
This position is focused on all JBTV related marketing and promotions. Marketing interns brainstorm ideas for new marketing campaigns, seek out sponsor acquisition, create social media contests, improve guidelines and improve overall traffic on all social media sites. Relevant background in marketing and promotions is preferred but not required.
Maintain and boost JBTV’s online presence through social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Spotify, Snapchat, Tumblr, Reddit and more). Here you can gain experience posting live JBTV show updates on a variety of outlets, promote events, operate contests and expand our online audience. Offer ideas in organizing and the creating social media content to improve JBTV’s social media presence.
